day one.

My first day in a nutshell:

- Everyone gets locked out of the building on their first day... Right?

- Bagels in my honor. A nice touch, considering my previous employer didn't even announce my departure. Maybe this is a sign I did, in fact, make the right decision.

- Note: Always confirm, then double confirm, what date your new health coverage will kick in. Especially since apparently, it takes some employers 90 days to get you covered. Seems to go against our President's obsession with health care, but what do I know?

- I have newfound respect for my husband's legal education. I have a headache from all I took in today, and I've learned a little something: a journalism degree is a huge plus in any editorial position, but honestly, the knowledge of the given subject might be even more crucial. Which is why I better be grateful I've got a husband who's a walking encyclopedia of Supreme Court cases.

- When someone's trying to get you hired, they'll say anything to get your attention. For example, a potential employer might say something like: "Here, we have half-days on Fridays!" Your face might light up, and your brain may be sent into hyperdrive. You're sold. Unfortunately, what your potential employer might really mean is, you get flex time. And you can't take it on Monday, Thursday, or Friday. Thankfully, I'm not picky. I'll take any afternoon off. In this case, Tuesday.

- Hooray for Jewish holidays, which I now openly celebrate. Now, what exactly is Yom Kippur? And why don't I get off for Hanukkah?

- A pair of new heels and black pants might be great on the job, but when I get home, I just want a pair of really baggy jeans and a t-shirt. I'm beginning to think this will never change.

- I am made for journalism. But I almost forgot.

- God brought me to this job, I am convinced. And so I know, despite temporary lack of insurance and short-term stress, He will bring me through it. This is a blessing from Him, and I am thrilled with the opportunities that lie ahead, both for me and my husband.

Thank you, God, for answering my prayers.

And that I have Monday off.
