i'm learning.

I may not be meeting the people I thought I'd meet (who was I kidding), but I am definitely learning what I thought I'd be learning. Creativity abounds here, and I've already thought of a few things I could be implementing, both at my full-time gig and in my freelance activities.

Case in point: my session this morning on church marketing by Michael Buckingham of Holy Cow! Creative, who introduced me to this little video.

Maybe what's really important-- in design, in marketing, in life-- is building relationships. Figuring out what makes other people tick, what defines them. Trying to see their side. In the words of Atticus Finch, perhaps my favorite character of all time: "You never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them."

Otherwise, you just can't reach them.

I've got a lot of walking to do.

NO WAY!!! Atticus Finch is my favorite character of all time! I think my husband is a lot like him and I even toy with the notion of naming our son Atticus. We have a lot in common!

Thanks for catching the session, I really hope that it gives you some things to marinate in your mind a bit and at least one thing that you can start putting into practice right away.

BTW...I'm thinking of hitting one of the vintage shops at lunch (have to find something for the party tonight) let me know if you want to join me.
