i heart leslie knope.
Guys, some days I just wish I worked for Leslie Knope.
A few weeks ago, we got a free trial for Netflix (I know, I know… We’re so 2005), and while we actually haven’t found that many movies we’re interested in (seriously, what’s the deal? Everything we want to watch is DVD-only. Someone please explain this to me), we decided to give Parks and Recreation a try.
We finished two seasons in six days.
In other words, we’re hooked — and in desperate need of season three.
Let me explain: We’re huge fans of The Office over here. Huge. We could probably quote you seasons one through three in their entirety. But I think we’ve both found a new favorite — or at least a replacement for when we’ve run out of the Office seasons we keep on rotation.
There’s something just so absolutely fabulous about Leslie Knope, her naiveté, her passion, her eternal optimism… Amy Poehler’s uncanny ability to deliver the perfectly quirky line with an equally-perfect straight face. Jordan has even said — more than once — that Poehler is our generation’s Lucille Ball. (And Jordan takes his TV Land programming quite seriously, so I assure you: He does not mean this lightly.)
I love how Leslie cares for her employees, how she sees her job as more than just an hourly wage. She really loves what she does, and she wants it to make a difference. I wish real life were a bit more like that sometimes.
Leslie Knope, you’re my hero.

P.S. – How great is this quote from Amy Poehler: “I get worried for young girls sometimes; I want them to feel that they can be sassy and full and weird and geeky and smart and independent, and not so withered and shriveled.” Amen. Maybe Amy Poehler is my hero too.

I think women should be given Parks and Rec on DVD when they leave the hospital with their new babies. It saved me during maternity leave when I desperately needed to laugh.
I like that it is sweeter and less cynical than The Office. And I love (LOVE) Ron Swanson.
we love parks & rec too! josh even says he likes it more than the office... hmmm, i don't know, haha!
we don't have "tv" but we watch a fair amount of netflix. we are office fans too, huge ones, like y'all! my brother suggested parks and rec...and we watched it all, within a few days! LOVE. ditto everything you said about leslie knope. awesome.
xo
I've been meaning to watch Parks and Rec on Netflix ever since I finished all the seasons of 30 Rock I've been needing something to fill that void. I may have to start watching it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Leslie! And I love that quote from her's you added at the end!
haha love this! parks & rec is seriously my favorite show. we've been watching arrested development recently [because we finished all the parks & rec on netflix] but it's just not the same! i can't wait for more parks & rec episodes! :)
Me and my fiance watched all 6 seasons of Office on Netflix, then Parks and Rec seasons, then Arrested Development. I agree though, Netflix has way better selection of tv shows than movies!
LOVE Parks and Rec!! It's the best thing Netflix has to watch. That and all the Masterpiece Theater movies. I love all the characters. It's rare that I actually laugh when I'm watching TV, but Parks gets me every time. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are my heroes! Have you read Bossypants? Amy makes a few cameo appearances!
Amy Poehler makes my heart shine. That last quote is perfect!
parks and rec truly is the best! as is amy poehler. did you listen to her harvard commencement speech back in may? if not, you should give it a whirl. best i've ever heard- both hilarious and moving.
I adore Parks and Rec! And season 3 is the best yet! I hear it comes out on DVD September 6th, so hopefully it would be on Netflix around then. I love Leslie Knope so much. I love that she's so cheerful in the face of adversity and is really striving to do the best she can for her community!
And I know what you mean about Netflix limited instant-watch options! They said they are raising prices because shipping is costing them so much money, but then why not just phase out the DVDs and have more online options? ;)
I love her too! One of my favorite shows by far.
I must say, I think you've convinced me to start watching Parks & Recreation on netflix! I've been in serious need of another comedy after the brilliant 1-5 seasons of The Office. I've heard that "Community" is also funny--any thoughts?
Do you watch 30 Rock? Justin and I text each other 30 Rock quotes at LEAST once a day. It's my favorite thing. We looove Parks and Rec. too!
