embracing the silly.

You know what I am learning, the older I get?

That little bit inside of you that's spazzy and quirky and silly and fun?

Cling to it.

Hold on to it with all of your might.

Because otherwise, there's a pretty high chance it's going to disappear.

The odds are good that one day, you'll wake up, and the kid inside of you simply won't exist anymore.

So I like to embrace the silly. I like to slide down pool slides and skin my knees and dance in the yard with sparklers.

It's important, I think, to let the five-year-old inside of me loose every once in a while.

She's a pretty fun girl. I'd hate to lose her.

(P.S. -- If you're the praying kind, would you pray for my mom today? She had an emergency appendectomy while on vacation this weekend, and she's recovering in a hospital fairly far from home. Almost every ounce of silly in me, I owe to her, and I'm ready to have her back safe and sound. Thanks, friends.)

I think if you can't be silly then life just won't be as fun! Loved all your sparkler pictures on Twitter!

Will be praying for your mom! Hope she has a speedy recovery.

Will be praying for your mom!!

And I always think of the line from the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" - "Never lose your childish innocence - it is the most important thing". :)

PS - I hope you love Madeleine L'Engle's "Walking on Water" - I read it last year(?), earlier this year(?) and LOVED it! Such an amazing book!

first, i'm praying for your mom and i hope all is well!

second, i couldn't agree more with you. being silly once in a while is actually the mature thing to do (that's what i tell myself at least).

I just shared a post about being silly as well!! It is the only thing that truly keeps you young. I tell myself every day that I am not going to grow up.. Working so far!

Yes! Silly is good. My hubby is so good about helping me be silly when I start to take myself too seriously. I hope he never stops! Love him!
