bathroom redo.

When you get married young, there is an understanding that neither you nor your husband will know what on earth you're doing.

Jordan is no expert on plumbing problems or electrical issues.

I muddle my way through meals and let laundry pile up.

But we are learning. And during this learning process, I am eternally grateful for family.

There is the headboard my uncle helped me build and the patio we landscaped together. There is the Ikea chandelier my father-in-law wired, the rooms my cousins and dad painted. So much in this little apartment is filled with love, and this week, my mother and I tackled a project on my new year's to do list: the master bathroom.

My mother-in-law and I painted the bathroom together (another project of love) when Jordan and I moved into this place almost a year and a half ago. But recently, I realized that our bathroom felt like it belonged in a dorm rather than the home of happily married grown-ups. I hadn't done a good job of keeping it clean, and mostly it just felt like a place to brush our teeth.

For a girl who grew up reading books in the bathtub, this just wouldn't do.

So armed with Christmas money from grandma, we redid our entire bathroom -- towels, canisters, shower curtain, rug -- for under $100.

I wish I had "before" pictures, but trust me: This was quite the transformation.

What I love the most is that my mother and I tackled this together. We drilled in new knobs, hung a new shower curtain, and placed towels in a basket on the floor. I scrubbed the baseboards and mopped the floors... All in about three hours.

When you marry young, you just have to admit: You don't know everything. But your parents know a lot. And if you call and ask, they will answer.

In one afternoon, our bathroom was completely transformed. One afternoon. Isn't that amazing?

Yep, I'm seeing lots more bubble baths in my future.

I love your new bathroom look! It's so classy and pretty! I've tried to do the best I can to make our townhouse our own but it's hard when we can't paint or change knobs or really do anything major. I can't wait until we own a place so we can transform it to fit us!

It DOES look wonderful!
I love that you did the project with your mother- there's something about getting help from parents, even when you're a so-called grownup, that just feels so right. Like they can still make the world a completely safe place.
