grateful for: music.

{from here}

I’m grateful for music today. Grateful for how it both suits and changes my mood. It’s a coping mechanism and a source of joy, a reminder of creativity and art and good things.

Lately, especially, I’ve found some musicians I really love, talented artists who are so very good at what they do. Below is my perfect playlist for December, ideal music to enjoy this holiday season:

1 – Winter Song by Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles
2 – Blue Eyes by Timmy Curran
3 – Baby It’s Cold Outside by Zooey Deschanel and Leon Redbone
4 – River by Pomplamoose
5 – Celebrate the Day by Relient K
6 – You Make Me Feel So Young by Rosemary Clooney
7 – Come O Come by Sufjan Stevens
8 – Mistletoe by Colbie Caillat
9 – You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne
10 – Winter Winds by Mumford & Sons
11 – The Chain by Ingrid Michaelson
12 – Heart of Life by John Mayer
13 – Count Your Blessings by Diana Krall
14 – Slow Motion by David Gray
15 – Valley Winter Song by Fountains of Wayne
16 – There’s Still My Joy by Indigo Girls
17 – No Christmas For Me by Zee Avi

To celebrate the growth of this blog and the good things this month has brought my way, I thought it would be fitting to host my first giveaway of sorts, and, inspired by this blog friend, I thought a mix CD might be appropriate.

So, leave a comment below -- including the name of your current favorite song or artist -- to be entered to win a copy of my Winter 2010 mix. If you're lucky, I just might include a little extra something in your winnings (oh, who am I kidding? of course I will; it's the holidays!). A winner will be announced Monday morning.

Happy listening!

Throughout the latter part of November, I'm dedicating my time to the things that fill my life with joy. You can find more posts on gratitude through the month of November here.

Somehow I feel like I already contributed my favorite song to this...

My favorite song (for the time being) is Obstacle 1 by Interpol. I just keep playing it on repeat! But my favorite song changes every few weeks.

Oh, and my email is gdblogger1 at gmail dot com! Don't count this as an extra entry, my entry is the comment above.

I've just been recently introduced to Zee Avi, and I just love her and that you've included her on your playlist. She's definitely my favorite of the moment.

I like the playlist! There's a struggle right now between two of my favorite songs. One is "Run" by Vampire Weekend and the other is "Carol of the Bells" by The Bird and the Bee. Both bands are great. I LOVE ANNIE!!!

Your "little" blog is growing right in front of my eyes:) YAY!
Well FB already knows this but my fav. song for the moment is Club can't Handle Me by Flo Rida. Not typical Sabrina but it is soo catchy!

Really loving Rumer at the moment. She is like Karen Carpenter re-born. Such a beautiful soulful voice.

Love your picks! Love Zooey's voice too. I've been listening to Girl Talk a lot lately because it makes me want to boogie, but a couple of artists I really like that I recently discovered are Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and The Like. If we're talking Christmas music, one of my fav albums is by Kim Stockwood (you may not have heard of her as she's from Newfoundland, but she's quite popular in Eastern Canada) and it's called I Love Santa. It has a really fun, old-fashioned Christmas feel with some unique holiday songs that you don't hear on other albums (lets be honest, most artists tend to do versions the SAME boring old songs on Christmas albums, am I right?)

I love JoAnna Newsom: "Sprout and the Bean." There is something enchanting about her voice and lyrics.

This is a great list!! I can see it making for an awesome mix cd!!

I have so many favorite artists, I don't know where to begin - but as of *right* now, Handel's Messiah is pretty high up there. After that it would Mumford & Sons "Awake My Soul".

I love new music! It's so much fun and if I don't win the cd I'll be checking out some of the stuff you mentioned that I'm not familiar with!

My favorite current song is always so hard to pick because I have so many! I'll pick my favorite Christmas song though since your playlist is a Decemeber theme. My favorite Christmas song is "Sleigh Ride" by the Boston Pops Orchestra. There's just something about that instrumental version that I LOVE.

My current favorite song would have to be "Learning to Love" by Caleb. I just saw them live for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Amazing stuff!

"Wires" by Athlete comes in a close second. "Lisztomania" by Phoenix is in the third slot.
