the imperfect life.

Sometimes, I get caught up in this little blog world, where everyone portrays their lives through rose-colored lenses, where all the pictures are pretty and Photoshopped, the messes are cleaned up, and the houses are impeccably designed. In all the hustle and bustle and reading and following, I forget that the real world we live in is so much messier (but so much better) than what we read about online.

I don't want anyone to ever think I lead the perfect life.

Instead, I want you to know that my life is full of imperfection. My house is messy for weeks on end before I finally deep clean it into submission. My relationship with Jordan has its ups and downs. My job isn't always wonderful, and my ability to see the beauty and the goodness is often blinded.

Don't believe me?

What about that time I took an $80 cake decorating class that I hated with a passion?

Or went to pick fruit and vegetables with friends weeks too late when everything was out of season and all the farms were closed?

There was that time a giant tree missed our humble little home by just a few yards...

And that time I tried to be a good wife and bake Jordan a blueberry cobbler, only to discover my blueberries had frozen themselves to the inside of my freezer, requiring a hairdryer to thaw and remove them.

I just want you to know that our lives -- yours and mine -- aren't designed to be perfect. Not this go around. Instead, we bake disgusting cakes and blow dry our freezers. Sometimes trees fall and farms close and you get lost and everything seems painful and messy and kind of a hassle.

But sometimes, the cake tastes pretty good. And your freezer looks kind of pretty covered in blueberry juice. And you giggle with your friends through back country roads, and you are grateful for the mess.

I am learning to embrace the imperfection that is this life. Because somehow, even the messes often come out looking pretty beautiful.

I couldn't agree more. Blueberry is one of my favorite colors, anyway.

Without the imperfections how can we appreciate the real beauty and perfection of Christ?? Love your blogs. They help me focus on the important things.
