dabbling in florals.

 {photos from here}

By now it’s no secret that my rendezvous with cake decorating turned out to be a bust. But there’s another art I’ve been dying to try:

Floral arranging.

I haven’t been able to find a class in the Tallahassee area (if you know of one, do tell!), but I did come across an article in the New York Times last week offering some tips, most of which I understood (unlike the instructions Cake Lady belted out week after week at Michaels). In fact, based on the tips the Times listed, I actually think I could handle floral arranging. It sounds challenging (especially given the fact that I don't know the correct pronunciation of ranunculus), but the idea of getting my hands dirty in God's creation really appeals to me... way more than cake batter, anyway.

My mom's been artfully arranging flowers for years (she recently turned a $5 Publix bouquet I had bought into a work of art, just by using some fern fronds. Who knew?), and I'm pretty sure I've got some relatives who own a floral shop in Kentucky, so maybe this little hidden art is in my genes. Either way, I'm dying to give it a try.

What about you? Any hobbies you've been keeping secret? Does floral arranging appeal to you as much as it does to me?

(P.S.- This blog from the Little Flower School mentioned in the New York Times has some serious floral eye candy.)

Flower arranging is so much fun! I usually just arrange whatever flowers I have growing outside and make do. But I have been wanting to try flower arranging with synthetic flowers, it might be easier? Hope you enjoy it!

I keep hoping I'm going to uncover some brilliant hidden talent one of these days... maybe I'm secretly a world-class juggler? Floral arranging sounds like a much better place to start.
